Although it may not seem that way to your kids, homework is an important part of the learning process. Homework helps kids reinforce what they learned in school, prepare for tests and build skills in certain subject areas. Homework can sometimes become very difficult, that’s why it’s important to create a good environment to do homework and to break it down in a way that seems less intimidating.
Homework should just be part of the daily routine for your kids. They should have a certain spot in the house where they do homework everyday that is free from distractions like the TV, radio, computer or even the refrigerator. They should also have a set time at which to do homework so that they can’t keep putting it off.
Help your kids plan out their time when it comes to doing big projects. It may even help them to make a calendar for the time leading up to the due date and write down which part of the project they will complete on which day. The same rule should apply to studying. Instead of doing it all the night before the test, studying a little bit each night can make the work more manageable.
