April is Autism Awareness Month. According to the expert, exercise is extremely beneficial to an autistic child. Autistic children are believed to have a greater chance of becoming overweight because of a general lack of physical activity, the use of certain prescription drugs that lead to weight gain, and unique eating habits. This can become very problematic, and put the child at risk for many health problems such as diabetes and even depression! Being able to exercise, if only for a few hours each week, can significantly improve an autistic child’s health. Physical activity will not only help the child to become more healthy, it can also can help to improve their motor skills and attention span. While every autistic child may face different challenges and show improvement at their own pace, each child should be given the opportunity to experience the benefits of exercise.
For all of April, special needs evaluation lessons are half-price ($20). Call 1 800 99 SHARK or visit www.actionkarate.net to schedule yours.
